Factory direct refers to purchasing furniture directly from the place that manufactures it. Traditionally, manufacturers will make their products and then sell them to a distributer. The distributer then sells the product to retailers who in turn sells it to the consumer.

Both the distributer and the retailer will increase the cost of the product to cover their costs. Factory direct sales means that the manufacturer actually skips the distributer and retailer steps and sells their product directly to the consumer.

Price:

Usually factory direct futons will cost you less to purchase because there are no middle-men (distributors and retailers) involved in the process to increase the price to cover their costs.
