Our Canadian-Made Futons Are Always In Style!

When you’re buying furniture, of course you’re thinking of its use in the room the furniture will be used. If you’re buying a couch, are you thinking if it’s going to be used for sitting or sleeping, or both? This is when the thought of the purchase should come in to play. A futon is perfect for sitting and sleeping needs. Buying furniture in general takes some thought and a purchasing a futon is no different. Keep in mind how flexible futons are and can be used in any space. With futons, you can choose from many shapes and sizes. A trip to a showroom, like the one at The Futon Shop, will prove that and give you inspiration to decorate the space that needs the furniture. A futon doubles as a place to sit and sleep, so a futon purchase will be cost-effective as it satisfies a couple of needs.

If you’re thinking about buying a futon, remember that they are very versatile. A futon is the perfect way to use space to its maximum use. It’s a functional couch by day and a comfortable bed by night. A futon that serves as accent chair can be converted to a single bed that doesn’t take up the space of a sofa bed. Guests can be welcomed at any time! The things to remember about a futon purchase is that they combine a seating purpose with a place to sleep. They can be changed in the future with a change in the cover if you would like to refresh a room. Your best bet is to also look for a frame finish you’ll enjoy that will complement the space. You can generally choose pine, light or dark hardwood and metal. You can even choose the thickness of your mattress. Your futon specialist at The Futon Shop will be an invaluable source of information when you’ve made the decision to purchase a futon. The staff at The Futon Shop help you with your futon needs. They will help you choose the type of frame you would like. Would your space be complimented by a wooden or metal frame? They can help with that decision based on how the futon will be used. Are you going to use it primarily as a couch and as a bed every now and then? Or the other way around? Or perhaps both uses on a daily basis? This is information that you should really know when you are heading out to The Futon Shop. If you’re not sure, the staff will be happy to help you.

If you’re thinking Christmas gifts, perhaps someone on your list has futon but would love a new cover or cushions. If that’s the case, a stop at The Futon Shop would be a great idea. If you want to get a unique gift, a bean bag chair from The Futon Shop would be a surprise!

Futon Mattress Types Explained: How to Choose Comfort for Sitting and Sleeping

By Ron Becker • September 29, 2026
The best futon mattress depends on how often it will be used as a sofa, how often it will become a bed, who will sleep on it and what frame supports it. At The Futon Shop, we help customers compare complete futon packages rather than choosing by thickness alone. A mattress that feels plush for one night may be difficult to fold every day, while a flexible sofa-friendly model may not provide the support a particular sleeper expects. Begin with the room’s primary job. A living-room futon used mostly for seating needs a mattress that holds its shape and bends smoothly with the frame. A guest-room futon used for occasional sleep may prioritize sleeping comfort. A studio or small apartment used every night needs a careful balance of support, durability, foldability and daily handling.

How to Shop for a Futon: Choosing the Right Frame, Mattress and Size

By Ron Becker • August 12, 2026
A futon can turn one room into two. It may serve as a comfortable sofa during the day, a guest bed at night or an everyday sleep surface in a compact home. The right model depends on more than colour or price, however. Frame construction, mattress feel, available space and how often the futon will be converted all affect long-term satisfaction. Before you shop for futons, take a few measurements and decide how the piece will be used. That preparation makes it much easier to compare options.
